In continuation of the systematic escalation and deliberate perpetration of the despicable aggression, the treacherous Iranian attacks targeted several vital civilian facilities in a series of assaults involving drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. These strikes hit two power stations and water desalination plants, as well as a key site in the oil sector, while air defenses intercepted the attacks from Thursday night through Saturday morning.
While fire crews responded to and extinguished fires at two power stations, with several firefighters injured at one of the sites, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced the activation of emergency plans and immediate response measures to mitigate the impact and maintain the stability of the electrical grid.
For its part, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation revealed that a vital site in the oil sector was subjected to repeated brutal attacks on Saturday morning, resulting in significant material losses and some injuries.
Following several statements from the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces on Friday and Saturday morning regarding the interception of attacks by the armed forces, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, stated on Saturday afternoon that the armed forces had detected hostile ballistic missiles and drones within Kuwaiti airspace since Saturday morning, which were intercepted and neutralized.
Al-Atwan said the despicable Iranian aggression continued to target several military and security installations, along with various vital and civilian facilities in the country. The attacks hit facilities belonging to the oil, electricity, and water sectors, leading to fires and severe damage to several infrastructure and facilities.
He noted that relevant authorities had begun firefighting and repair operations, and that the interception of hostile attacks resulted in debris falling on several sites and residential areas, causing material damage without any recorded human casualties.
The General Headquarters of the Armed Forces had previously announced a series of interceptions against multiple hostile missile and drone attacks following the despicable Iranian aggression.
In a previous statement on Friday, Colonel Al-Atwan said the armed forces had detected hostile ballistic missiles and drones within Kuwaiti airspace since Friday morning, which were intercepted and neutralized. He pointed out that the despicable Iranian aggression resulted in the targeting of several army installations and camps by hostile drones, leading to injuries among several members of the ground force while carrying out their duties. The injured received necessary medical care and treatment, and their health conditions are stable.
Colonel Al-Atwan had previously announced that air defenses intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks on Thursday night. He stated that the armed forces had detected 32 hostile drones within Kuwaiti airspace since Thursday morning, which were intercepted and neutralized.
For its part, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that two power and water desalination stations were attacked amid the despicable Iranian aggression against the State of Kuwait, resulting in fires breaking out in one of the components of the stations.
The ministry revealed in a statement on Saturday that an attack targeted one of the power stations, necessitating precautionary operational measures, including disconnecting several generation units to safeguard the station and its workers, and to ensure the stability of the electrical grid.
Previously, on Friday, the ministry announced that, as a result of the unjust Iranian aggression, one of the country’s power and desalination plants was attacked, causing damage to its facilities, igniting a fire, and damaging a large number of power generation units. This prompted the activation of emergency plans and immediate response to the incident to mitigate its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical grid. It added that general firefighting teams immediately intervened, successfully controlling and extinguishing both fires.
For its part, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced that a vital site in the oil sector was subjected to repeated, brutal Iranian attacks on Saturday morning, resulting in significant material losses and some injuries. The injured were provided with medical aid, and the site was evacuated. In a statement, the corporation noted that the response to the attacks was coordinated with relevant state authorities.
For his part, Major General Mohammed Al-Gharib, the official spokesperson for the General Fireforce, announced on Saturday that firefighting teams successfully controlled two fires that broke out at two different locations in the country following their targeting in hostile attacks stemming from the unjust Iranian aggression. In a media statement, Al-Gharib said, “Firefighting teams immediately began firefighting and containment operations upon arrival. Five firefighting teams participated, supported by teams from the oil sector at the first site, while three teams responded to the second site.” He added that the incident at the first site resulted in injuries to several firefighters and one worker in the oil sector, due to the site being targeted again during firefighting operations. First aid was administered, and the injured were transferred to medical emergency services and then to hospitals for treatment. He clarified that the General Fireforce also responded to three separate fires caused by debris falling in several residential areas, successfully controlling and extinguishing them. The damage was limited to property, with no injuries reported.
Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, confirmed that the armed forces continue to carry out their duties and responsibilities with high efficiency, under conditions of constant readiness and preparedness, taking all necessary measures to protect the nation’s sovereignty, security, and stability, in coordination with competent authorities, to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
According to statistics released by the General Staff of the Army late last Thursday, the number of drones targeted by the Iranian aggression against Kuwait and intercepted by air defenses since the start of the war in late February totaled 1,002. The number of missiles reached 412, including 387 ballistic and 25 cruise missiles.
Fatima Hayah, the official spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the commitment and cooperation of citizens and residents in rationalizing electricity consumption had a noticeable impact in reducing consumption below expected levels, contributing to supporting technical teams’ efforts to maintain grid stability and service continuity. She thanked citizens, residents, all government entities, state institutions, media outlets, and the private sector for their cooperation in disseminating awareness messages on rationalizing consumption.
The Ministry had previously urged citizens and residents to cooperate with it during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, as this has a direct impact on supporting the stability of the national power grid, enabling technical teams to manage the system efficiently, and ensuring the continuity of services across the country.
The Ministry also announced that its emergency teams immediately began, in coordination with relevant authorities, implementing the necessary technical and precautionary measures to assess damages caused by the fire at the two power stations, secure the facilities, and restore affected units to service as quickly as possible while adhering to the highest safety standards. It emphasized that all operational and emergency plans were activated immediately following the incident to ensure the continuity of both the power and water systems.
