Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Participates in the Opening of a Solar Energy Project
The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development participated in the inauguration of a solar power plant project in the Kahramanmaraş province of the Turkish Republic, as part of a grant provided by the Fund to the Turkish Republic, represented by the Greater Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality. The initiative aims to support the response plan for the Syrian refugee crisis and implement sustainable development projects that enhance the capacity of host communities to address social and economic challenges.
The project was inaugurated on Saturday morning under the patronage and presence of the Mayor, Fırat Görgüglü, with the participation of a delegation from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and in the presence of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Turkish Republic, Mohammed Marzouq Al-Shaboub.
The project aims to generate electricity from renewable energy sources to meet heating and cooling needs in camps and temporary shelter facilities, while also reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting reliance on renewable and sustainable energy sources. The plant is located in the Pazarcık district and has a maximum production capacity of 6 megawatts.
The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development allocated $4 million to construct the solar power plant, which has now been inaugurated. The grant, totaling $10 million, also finances three other projects: a children’s library and arts center, a career guidance and counseling center, and a youth and sports center.
In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Fırat Görgüglü emphasized that the Kahramanmaraş solar power plant represents a qualitative addition to the city’s sustainable development journey. He expressed his appreciation for the financial support provided by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, which contributed to the implementation of this vital project.
He added that the project reflects the depth of friendship between the Turkish Republic and the State of Kuwait, and underscores the importance of international cooperation and partnerships in supporting development projects with sustainable impact.
Ambassador Al-Shaboub, in his speech, affirmed that the project embodies the State of Kuwait’s commitment, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, to supporting sustainable development projects that enhance the capacity of host communities to face challenges and contribute to improving the level of services provided to them.
The project comes within the efforts of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to support development projects related to the Syrian refugee crisis, thereby contributing to improving living conditions and enhancing stability in affected areas.
