"Do Not Waste" ... Friday Sermon Urges Conservation

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has directed mosques to deliver Friday sermons today on the rationalization of electricity and water consumption, in response to the efforts of the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy in this regard.

The unified sermon, titled “Do Not Be Extravagant,” follows mutual coordination between the Ministries of Electricity and Islamic Affairs, and serves as a continuation of the national campaign for conserving electricity and water launched by the latter, echoing the “Save” campaign. The sermon emphasizes that Islam has established moderation as a way of life, prohibited extravagance and waste in all aspects of living, and calls for the rational use and preservation of blessings, considering it both a religious and societal responsibility.

The sermon highlights various forms of extravagance, stressing the importance of conserving water and electricity. It points out that excessive use of water for washing cars and irrigating gardens, neglecting to repair leaks, and operating lighting and electrical appliances without need are manifestations of waste that affect public resources and increase the burden on society. The sermon also reviews the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) example in conserving water, noting that he used a mudd for ablution and a sa’ for bathing, despite the abundance of water in Medina, offering a practical model that embodies moderation and the avoidance of waste in the use of blessings.
