Discover the Features of the Most Attractive Face

A new scientific study has revealed the facial features that people of both genders find most attractive, after researchers used 3D scanning technology to analyze more than 600 faces with varying shapes and proportions.

The results showed that the most attractive female faces are characterized by greater slimness, full lips, and more defined features, while the most attractive male faces featured prominent chins and angular facial structures.

Six independent evaluators—three men and three women—participated in assessing attractiveness, with each participant ranking every 3D face on a scale from 0 to 100, where higher scores reflected greater attractiveness.

Professor Georgios Kanavakis, the study’s author from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, told the specialized website PsyPost that physical attractiveness influences many aspects of our daily lives, from first impressions and casual acquaintances to professional opportunities and romantic relationships. He added that although beauty appears to be subjective, decades of research have shown a striking consensus among people regarding which faces they consider attractive.

The researcher cautioned that attractiveness is rarely linked to a single isolated feature, such as an “ideal” nose or chin, but is instead largely the result of the interaction of a set of subtle details that complement one another.

Within the framework of the study, the research team presented real-life examples that closely match these ideal specifications:

• Among men, British model David Gandy and actor Henry Cavill emerged as the closest real-life models to the features that received the highest ratings.

The study, published in the journal Progress in Orthodontics, noted that first impressions are formed within a tenth of a second and leave a strong, lasting impact on human relationships, as people form judgments about traits such as trustworthiness, competence, and intelligence upon the first visual contact.

In a related context, a previous study conducted by researcher Eugene Vasilievich from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Frankfurt indicated that women are generally rated as more attractive than men. He noted that women tend to give other women’s faces significantly higher ratings than men do, while men’s faces receive relatively low and similar ratings from both genders.
