Al-Azraq defeats its Syrian counterpart in its opening match of the West Asian Championship

Kuwait’s national volleyball team defeated Syria 3-0 in straight sets on Wednesday in their opening match of the second West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship, hosted in the Omani capital, Muscat.

The “Blue Shirts” deserved their victory, which was witnessed by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajjari, after a strong performance that secured set wins of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16. This result guaranteed Kuwait’s qualification for the semifinals ahead of their next match against Qatar on Saturday.

In another Group B match today, Iraq defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1. This result allowed Oman, which beat Lebanon yesterday, to take top spot in the group during the tournament’s opening round.

The Sultanate of Oman is hosting the second edition of the West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat from July 14 to 21. Seven teams are participating: Kuwait, Syria, and Qatar in Group A; and Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Oman in Group B.

The group stage is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, after which the knockout rounds begin on July 20 with a fifth-place match between the third-placed teams from each group, as well as two semifinals featuring the Group A winner against the Group B runner-up, and the Group B winner against the Group A runner-up.

The championship will conclude on July 21 with a third-place match and the final to determine the champion of the second edition.

The tournament is played in a single round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals to compete for the title.
