Attempted robbery at Yamal residence

Madrid – AFP – The home of Spanish national team star Lamine Yamal was targeted in a robbery attempt early Wednesday morning, hours after “La Roja” defeated France 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, according to police and Catalan media.

A spokesperson for the Catalan police force, Mossos d’Esquadra, told AFP that an “armed robbery attempt” occurred at a residence in Esplugues de Llobregat, a suburb of Barcelona, adding that he could not disclose the homeowner’s identity to protect his privacy.

The attempted robbery took place at dawn, hours after the match that saw “La Roja” eliminate “Les Bleus,” thanks to a penalty kick won by Yamal, which Mikel Oyarzabal successfully converted in the 22nd minute, before Pedro Porro added a second goal in the 58th minute.

Catalan police also announced the opening of an investigation into another “violent robbery” targeting a home in the same city, near Yamal’s residence.

Robberies of football players’ homes, particularly in the capital Madrid, are common, with many of them falling victim in recent years, most notably French striker Karim Benzema, and Brazilians Rodrygo and Dani Carvajal.
