Complaint to the International Olympic Committee Regarding Infantino’s Conduct

A complaint has been filed with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), accusing FIFA President Gianni Infantino of violating political neutrality rules in his dealings with US President Donald Trump.

The human rights organization Fair Square stated that Infantino, who joined the IOC in 2020, has repeatedly violated the Olympic Charter and the IOC’s Code of Ethics, most recently in his handling of the case involving US national team player Folarin Balogun.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee had suspended the American striker’s one-match ban, allowing him to participate in the Round of 16 match of the 2026 World Cup in North America against Belgium.

The British newspaper The Times reported that Disciplinary Committee Chairman Mohammed Al-Kamali made the decisive decision to lift the suspension alone, despite never having served as the sole judge in any previously published disciplinary cases.

Fair Square’s complaint alleges five clear violations of the IOC’s rules on political neutrality, along with preliminary evidence of two other serious breaches, including the manner in which the Balogun case was handled.

Last December, Fair Square filed a similar complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee. The Norwegian Football Federation also wrote to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, requesting that it review Fair Square’s complaint.

On June 29, 50 members of the European Parliament wrote to the same committee, urging it to examine Fair Square’s complaint.
