IMF: Prolonged Energy Supply Disruptions Will Impact the Global Economy

Christian Madsen, Director of the Strategy Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said he believes the factors that have prevented global growth from suffering greater repercussions from the war in the Middle East are likely to persist, but any prolonged disruption in energy supplies would clearly affect future forecasts.

When asked whether a resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran could prompt the IMF to revise its 2026 global economic growth forecast of 3 percent, Madsen said, “It is very difficult to determine the path the Fund’s estimates might take when updated in October.”
