US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said on Tuesday that Iran has “deliberately” targeted civilians across the Middle East and attacked commercial vessels in recent days, amid a resurgence of military tensions following a period of de-escalation between Washington and Tehran.
In a statement, Cooper noted that “over the past seven days, Iran deliberately targeted civilians throughout the region by attacking seven commercial ships, resulting in the death, disappearance, or injury of nearly 10 civilian crew members. Iranian forces also launched dozens of missiles and drones toward neighboring Gulf states.”
He added that US forces are “holding Iran accountable for its unjustified aggression, which continues to endanger the lives of innocents.”
These remarks come amid escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, as the United States continues to carry out military strikes against Iran for a third consecutive night, while Iran persists in launching attacks across the region.
