Ministry of Electricity... High readiness under direct supervision of the Minister and Deputy Minister
The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is on high alert following the recording of high electricity load indices over the past two days, due to a severe heatwave gripping the country, which is expected to intensify on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sources stated that “bringing the vast majority of electricity generation units and water desalination plants into service after completing maintenance operations, along with the quantities imported from the Gulf grid, have significantly contributed to addressing the challenges imposed by the heatwave on the ministry.” They emphasized that “all officials and employees of the ministry are making considerable efforts to maintain the stability of the electrical grid system and manage electricity loads.”
As the ministry ramps up its preparedness to navigate this heatwave, it continues to broadcast awareness messages to all consumers via the “Sahel” application, urging them to conserve electricity and water, based on its conviction that conservation is crucial in reducing consumption rates, in addition to other measures taken by the ministry in coordination with relevant authorities.
Regarding emergency incidents affecting some main substations, sources pointed out the readiness of technical teams to handle such incidents swiftly, whether related to main or secondary substations or other components of the electrical grid, to quickly restore power to affected areas. They noted that Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzoum, and Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Zamil are closely monitoring the responsiveness and speed of the concerned departments in dealing with any power outages.
The ministry added: “Despite the high temperatures, which reached 50 degrees Celsius over the past two days and are expected to rise to 51 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday, the ministry is committed to meeting the country’s needs and continuing to provide services to all its customers.” It called on everyone to use electricity and water optimally, avoiding waste and extravagance, especially during peak hours.
In the same context, technical teams restored power to areas that had lost electricity in the Al-Sadiq area within 30 minutes of the initial fault at the main Al-Sadiq (Al-Sadiq D) substation, following the repair of the sudden malfunction.
