UAE 'Reserves Right to Retaliate' After Tehran Targets Two Tankers

The United Arab Emirates expressed its strong condemnation and outrage over the aggressive Iranian attacks that targeted the national oil tankers “Mombasa” and “Al Bahiyah” as they transited the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters, affirming its right to respond and take necessary measures to protect its territory, population, and national interests.

In a statement relayed by the official WAM News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that “this aggressive Iranian attack constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasized freedom of navigation and rejected the targeting of commercial vessels or the disruption of international sea lanes.”

It stressed “the necessity for Iran to halt these aggressive attacks, thereby ensuring its full commitment to ceasing all hostile acts and reopening the strait completely and unconditionally, in order to secure regional stability and safeguard the global economy and trade.”

In a related development, an explosion of unknown origin occurred aboard a Norwegian tanker off the Omani coast, according to a crisis response firm.

MTI Network added that the maritime shipping company Stolt Tankers announced that its vessel, the Stolt Magnesium, was struck by an explosion caused by an unidentified external device while transiting the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman.
