World Cup: Tensions in the relationship between Takhalluf and Bellingham raise concerns

Despite England’s national team reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in North America, renewed tensions between German manager Thomas Tuchel and midfield star Jude Bellingham have raised concerns within the English camp, as the Three Lions aim to end a 60-year wait for a world title.

Following that match, Tuchel said he wanted Bellingham to maintain his enthusiasm but stressed the need to channel it appropriately, warning that his emotions could affect his teammates or the referees.

Tuchel added in remarks that sparked widespread debate: “Even my mother sometimes doesn’t see the polite young man I see. When he smiles, everyone wins, but his anger and passion can sometimes appear repulsive to her.”

Many considered the use of the word “repulsive” to be harsh and unjustified, prompting Tuchel to later apologize and clarify that the word was not his best choice because it is not his native language.

Talk of the relationship between the two resurfaced after the Norway match, when Bellingham responded to his manager’s criticism in a manner some viewed as sharp, reopening questions about the nature of their relationship.

Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane attempted to calm the atmosphere, saying: “The manager sees what we do in training and knows the great potential we have, so he wants that level to be shown in matches. He also realizes it’s not easy, as we face strong national teams.”
