Arab and Gulf condemnations of the repeated violation of Kuwait's sovereignty: Systematic Iranian escalation in entrenching chaos
A wave of Arab and Gulf condemnations has escalated in response to repeated Iranian attacks on Kuwait and other Gulf and Arab states, amid warnings of their serious repercussions on regional security, stability, and freedom of international navigation.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budawi, expressed his condemnation and rejection of Iran’s continued destabilizing behavior toward the region’s security and stability, as well as its repeated brazen attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan, and its assaults on commercial vessels. He emphasized that these actions constitute a grave violation of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817, and undermine maritime security.
He stressed that these attacks reveal a systematic determination to entrench chaos, reaffirming the Council’s full support for the measures taken by the targeted states to protect their sovereignty and security.
For his part, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy expressed his rejection and condemnation of the continued Iranian attacks on GCC states and Jordan, calling for a firm Arab stance against these aggressions.
In a statement, Fahmy said the attacks represent an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, posing a threat to their national security and stability. He denounced the repeated Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and the threat they pose to the security and freedom of international navigation, stating that no justification for them can be accepted. He affirmed that the security of Arab states is indivisible, and that any infringement on the sovereignty of any Arab state necessitates a unified and firm Arab response.
For its part, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Iranian attacks, stating in a release that these continuous assaults constitute a clear violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the OIC Charter, which undermines international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the region.
The Muslim World League also condemned the continuation of Iran’s culpable aggression. In a statement, the League’s Secretary-General and President of the Council of Senior Scholars, Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, reiterated his condemnation of the repeated Iranian attacks, which violate all religious values, international laws, and humanitarian norms, and undermine efforts to restore security and stability in the region.
For his part, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi affirmed that Iranian attacks on Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan represent a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a serious breach of international law. He reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the targeted states and called in a statement for the UN Security Council and the United Nations to take urgent measures to halt the attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
For its part, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its strong condemnation of Iran’s continued destabilizing behavior toward the region, and of the attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Jordan, which violate the principles of international law, the UN Charter, and norms of good neighborliness. In a statement, it reiterated its complete rejection of any infringement on the sovereignty of sister states or threats to their security and stability.
For its part, the State of Qatar strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on its territory and on the territories of Kuwait, Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman, considering them a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the targeted states, and a shocking breach of international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good neighborliness.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the continuation of these attacks constitutes a serious escalation that would complicate efforts to contain tensions and undermine political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in the region, holding Iran fully legally responsible for these attacks and their ensuing repercussions and consequences.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, emphasized that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of sister states and a threat to their security and stability, reaffirming the UAE’s full solidarity with them and its support for all measures aimed at preserving the security and stability of sister states.
In this context, Egypt condemned the Iranian attacks on Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, and Jordan, describing them as a blatant violation of sovereignty and a serious escalation that undermines de-escalation efforts. It affirmed its complete rejection of these attacks, reaffirmed its solidarity with the Gulf states and Jordan, and stressed, in two separate statements by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that no excuses or justifications for them can be accepted, while calling for an immediate halt to the escalation.
For his part, Jordan condemned the Iranian attacks on Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and the Sultanate of Oman, considering them a flagrant violation of sovereignty and a blatant breach of international law and the UN Charter. It affirmed, in a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its absolute solidarity with sister states and its support for all measures they take to protect their security and sovereignty.
From Lebanon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the Iranian attacks on Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, the Sultanate of Oman, and Jordan, affirming in a statement that they constitute a violation of the sovereignty of these states and a direct threat to their security, and warning that they pose a risk to the stability of the entire region, while reaffirming his full solidarity with “our brothers in these countries and our constant standing by their side.”
