Typhoon Pabuk strikes eastern China and weakens to a severe tropical storm

Beijing (AFP) – Typhoon Pabuk was downgraded to a severe tropical storm after making landfall in eastern China, prompting authorities to evacuate nearly two million people from its path.

Last week, severe weather caused widespread destruction across southern and central China, with storms claiming at least 39 lives, triggering floods in dozens of rivers, and causing a dam to collapse.
