Dismissal of Senegal's Coach

Dakar – Reuters – The Senegalese Football Federation has dismissed national team coach Babou Tiao following Senegal’s exit in the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Senegal had hoped to be a strong contender at the World Cup after defeating Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final in January, but delivered a disappointing performance in the tournament.

The “Terranga Lions” lost their first two group stage matches against France and Norway, and squandered a 2-0 lead with five minutes remaining in their round of 32 clash against Belgium, before losing 2-3 in extra time.

Tiao, 45, was scheduled to begin serving a five-match suspension in September as the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations began, after he directed his players to leave the pitch in protest over a penalty awarded to Morocco in the final held in Rabat.
