Sisi and Mohammed bin Zayed stress the need for coordination amid regional challenges
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed “the full range of bilateral relations and developments in regional and international issues of mutual interest” in Alamein on Sunday.
The Egyptian presidency stated in a press release that the two sides specifically discussed “recent developments in the Middle East region and efforts to avoid further escalation, reaffirming the necessity of continuing consultation, coordination, cooperation, and joint action on various issues amid the existing challenges facing the region.”
According to the statement, el-Sisi welcomed Mohamed bin Zayed at Alamein Airport, saying he was “a welcome guest to his second country, Egypt, as part of a fraternal visit.”
He emphasized “the special status enjoyed by the distinguished guest and the sisterly State of the UAE in Egypt and among its people, given the strength and depth of the historical and multifaceted relations between the two countries and their fraternal peoples.”
For his part, Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his gratitude and appreciation to el-Sisi for the warm reception, affirming “the fraternal and historical ties and bonds that unite the leaderships and peoples of the two countries.”
The official WAM News Agency reported that the two presidents discussed “fraternal relations and various aspects of cooperation and joint action to enhance them in all fields, serving the common interests of the two countries and bringing prosperity and development to their fraternal peoples.”
In a separate development, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during a phone call with US Presidential Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Moseed Paulus, reiterated “Egypt’s firm position supporting Sudan’s security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity,” stressing “the importance of respecting its sovereignty, supporting its national institutions, and engaging in a political process with purely Sudanese ownership.”
He affirmed “Egypt’s supportive position on the unity and stability of Libya, the preservation of its territorial integrity, the unification of its national institutions, and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-led process that paves the way for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held simultaneously as soon as possible,” welcoming “the UN, international, and US efforts led by Paulus to resolve the Libyan crisis.”
On the military front, Minister of Defense and Military Production Field Marshal Ashraf Sayed Mohamed headed a high-level military delegation to Turkey to hold talks with the Turkish Defense Minister and several military officials, focusing on enhancing prospects for military cooperation.
