"Destino Escobar" Threatens Colombian Star

The Colombian Football Federation has called on judicial authorities to launch an urgent investigation after national team striker Jaminton Campaz and his family received death threats, following his missed clear-cut opportunity during Switzerland’s match in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Campaz missed the most dangerous chance of the game in the final minutes of the second half of extra time, when he broke through on goal but shot over the crossbar, before later scoring from the penalty spot.
The incident has revived memories of one of the most tragic episodes in football history, when the late Colombian defender Andrés Escobar was shot dead in the city of Medellín in July 1994, days after returning from the World Cup in the United States, following his own goal against his national team in a match against the United States.
