Haaland crushes Brazil, sending them out of the World Cup with a brace

Norway delivered a stunning upset when striker Erling Haaland scored two late goals to eliminate five-time world champions Brazil 2-1, sending them out of the 2026 World Cup round of 16 on Sunday in New Jersey.

Brazil squandered a penalty in the opening 15 minutes through Bruno Guimaraes, while Haaland struck powerfully in the 79th and 90th minutes, raising his tally to seven goals, level with Frenchman Kylian Mbappe and Argentine Lionel Messi. Norway will now face the winner of the England-Mexico match, which is scheduled to take place later in Mexico City.

This marks the first time since the 1990 World Cup in Italy that Brazil has failed to reach the quarter-finals, despite Neymar scoring a penalty in stoppage time that was ruled out for offside.
