The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will undertake an official tour of Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the Sultanate of Oman from the 5th to the 10th of this month, as part of New Delhi’s efforts to strengthen its bilateral relations with Gulf states and discuss key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
In a statement, the ministry clarified that Jaishankar will hold meetings with his counterparts in the four countries, as well as with senior officials and leaders. The discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields, alongside exchanging views on regional developments and issues of common concern.
The ministry added that following the conclusion of his Gulf tour, the Indian Foreign Minister will travel to New York, where he will launch India’s official campaign on the 13th for its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–2029 term.
It noted that Jaishankar will conclude his tour with a visit to Brussels on the 14th and 15th to participate in the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting. He will also hold talks with EU officials and his Belgian counterparts to explore ways to enhance economic and technological cooperation between the two sides.
This tour comes amid intensified Indian diplomatic efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with Gulf states and expand cooperation with the European Union, coinciding with New Delhi’s bid to bolster its international presence through its campaign to secure a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term.
