Social Affairs to Cooperative Societies: Monitor Availability of Strategic Goods Reserves

Faisal Matar: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor continues to monitor the availability of strategic reserves of food commodities and essential consumer goods in cooperative societies, and to ensure their readiness to prepare pre-designated shelter sites, as part of routine follow-up on emergency plans. A senior source in the ministry told Al-Qabas that, under direct directives from Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, the ministry is overseeing the continued activation of emergency plans by its sectors and supervised entities, including cooperative societies, their central markets, and branches, to guarantee the stability of service delivery. The source clarified that the Financial and Administrative Affairs and Cooperation Sector has emphasized to all cooperative society boards the necessity of verifying the availability of their strategic reserves of food commodities and essential consumer goods, reviewing their expiration dates, and preparing to set up pre-established shelter sites in six governorates’ schools, totaling 95 shelters, as needed. He added that the ministry held a meeting with the General Directorate of Civil Defense to reaffirm the readiness of cooperative societies and monitor their preparedness within existing plans, noting that the meeting included a proposal to add three additional shelter sites as a precautionary measure.
