Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said he has full confidence in U.S. President Donald Trump, describing him as a “man of peace” who has succeeded in defusing several difficult crises. Adding that Trump would do his utmost and provide all possible forms of support and assistance to mediators to reach the best available settlement, thereby sparing the region further suffering and giving its peoples hope for a better life, el-Sisi made these remarks during a joint press conference with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar.
The Egyptian president appealed to all parties involved in the current crisis between the United States and Iran to create space for understanding and dialogue, and to resort to political communication in a manner that ensures the realization of the core demands of all sides. El-Sisi stressed the importance of prioritizing a dialogue track before it is too late, warning that the alternative would have catastrophic consequences for the region and the world, especially given the succession of crises the world has experienced in recent years.
He called on the United States and Iran to show flexibility during the current phase, in order to find common ground for understanding and to reach a resolution to the ongoing dispute. El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt would spare no effort, in cooperation with its partners, to de-escalate tensions and work toward resolving the crisis.
