The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council, in its meeting yesterday (Tuesday) chaired by member Eng. Munira Al-Amir, recommended approving the Ministry of Finance’s request to amend the Municipal Council’s decision issued for the Tourism Projects Company regarding the development of the Al-Masila Beach project in Lag 2, which covers an area of 70,334 square meters. The amendment stipulates that service areas should not be counted as built-up areas, limiting commercial use to 5% (3,516 square meters) exclusively for restaurants, cafes, and retail shops.

Recreational, sports, and cultural uses will account for 15% of the area (10,550 square meters), designated for a recreational, training, and educational center, indoor and outdoor children’s play areas, exhibitions, museums, covered sports fields, water activities, skating rinks, theaters, cinemas, a health club, festival squares and event spaces, an interactive animal recreational center, and multi-purpose halls.

Following the meeting, Committee Chairperson Munira Al-Amir stated in a statement that the committee discussed several regulatory, service, and developmental files aimed at developing public facilities and enhancing government services, organizing urban land uses, and providing spaces for recreational and sports activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and the needs of relevant authorities. She emphasized the committee’s commitment to developing recreational and tourism projects, supporting government facilities and service networks, and organizing land uses to ensure compliance with approved controls and the requirements of competent authorities.

She added that the committee approved the Ministry of Justice’s request to change the use of land previously designated for a multi-story parking building serving the Public Prosecution building and adjacent structures in the Shuwaikh Administrative Area. The land, covering 6,625 square meters, will now be allocated for an administrative building and a multi-story parking facility, in implementation of a Cabinet Council decision to enable the Public Prosecution to construct its administrative building and parking on the site, with the building height not exceeding 10 floors.

Furthermore, the committee approved the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy’s request to designate a fresh water pipeline route measuring 480 meters in length and 5 meters in width in the Arriyah and Um Tawain areas, extending from the Sixth Ring Road intersection.

Munira Al-Amir noted that the committee also approved the Ministry of Public Works’ request to amend the previous decision concerning commercial areas, allowing the division of the space allocated for the Transit Passenger Hotel into two separate hotels—one in the East Wing and the other in the West Wing—by redistributing the total hotel area of 7,500 square meters without adding new built-up or commercial spaces.
