The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that it had conveyed its full objection to the Jordanian side regarding the execution of operations within Syrian territory without prior coordination, expressing regret over the “martyrdom and injuries of sons of Daraa Governorate as a result of the operation.” The ministry stated that communication and coordination with the Jordanian side remain ongoing to ascertain the details and causes of the incident and to address its repercussions in a manner that safeguards security and Syrian territorial sovereignty. In a related development, passenger movement and commercial transport through the Nussair border crossing with Jordan were suspended. The Jordanian Army had previously announced that it carried out airstrikes targeting what it described as “terrorist groups” in southern Syria, “in retaliation” for the victims of an attack on a church in Karak Governorate in the south of the kingdom, noting that the operation was conducted in coordination with Damascus. The Jordanian Army named the operation “Jordanian Deterrence – Hamoud,” after the village where the attack occurred, according to its statement, which added that “the terrorists who carried out this criminal act are linked to these terrorist organizations.”
