The Iranian capital, Tehran, is hosting a quadrilateral meeting today, Monday, involving the member states of the Mecca Pact for Joint Defense alongside Iran. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman will lead the Kingdom’s delegation to the talks in Tehran, which will be held with Iranian officials and include participation by Pakistani Army Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin. The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by the Mecca Pact for Joint Defense member states to de-escalate tensions among the parties to the current crisis, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, support mediation efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan, and reaffirm the pivotal role of the pact’s members in ensuring regional security and stability, while working with all regional countries to achieve this objective.
A Saudi Foreign Ministry official stated that Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman will lead the Kingdom’s delegation to the Tehran-hosted meetings today between the Mecca Pact for Joint Defense member states and Iranian officials, adding that the visit and talks are part of the continued efforts by the pact’s members to de-escalate tensions among the parties to the current crisis and promote dialogue and diplomatic solutions. The representatives of the Mecca Pact for Joint Defense member states are expected to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia signed the Mecca Pact for Joint Defense in August, which stipulates that any armed attack on one member state is considered an attack on all.
