Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi confirmed on Saturday that investing in national cadres, developing them, and empowering them scientifically and professionally constitute a fundamental pillar and priority for developing the healthcare system and achieving sustainable development of medical services in the State of Kuwait. Minister Al-Awadi stated in his speech during the opening of the Second Internal Medicine Conference, organized by Al-Audan Hospital, that scientific conferences and forums embody the commitment to consolidating the culture of scientific research and continuing medical education, and provide a professional platform for exchanging expertise and discussing the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of internal medicine diseases.

He highlighted Al-Audan Hospital’s 45-year journey, which began with its health services in 1980 and its official opening in 1981, praising the hospital and its Internal Medicine Department for their progress and expansion in subspecialties, infrastructure modernization, and enhanced interdepartmental integration. He noted that the Internal Medicine Department at Al-Audan Hospital has undergone significant qualitative leaps, including the development of services for clinical hematology, neurological diseases, strokes, and movement disorders, as well as specialized clinics for obesity, gastrointestinal and respiratory systems, and geriatrics. The department has also contributed to establishing clinical protocols and early detection and prevention programs.

He added that, in light of the rapid advancement of precision medicine, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence applications, such gatherings are crucial for linking knowledge with clinical practice and enabling physicians to keep pace with the latest developments, thereby serving patients and elevating service quality. He emphasized that “however much modern technologies may offer, the qualified physician capable of sound judgment and clinical decision-making remains the indispensable foundation of human care.”

For his part, Dr. Khalil Shaweek, Head of the Internal Medicine Department at Al-Audan Hospital and Chairman of the Conference, said during the opening of the event, held for the second consecutive year, that the primary objective since the first edition was to create an opportunity bringing together physicians from various specialties to exchange expertise and stay abreast of the latest developments. He clarified that scientific meetings are not limited to delivering lectures and discussion sessions, but also provide space for direct interaction among colleagues and the benefit of shared clinical experiences, which directly and positively reflects on the quality of care provided to patients.
