The King Hussein Cancer Center in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan honored the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in appreciation of its contributions to supporting the treatment of Syrian refugees suffering from cancer, during a ceremony held on the occasion of the center’s 25th anniversary.
In a statement to KUNA on Wednesday, the Kuwait Fund said the honor recognizes the ongoing cooperation between the Fund and the center in providing medical care to Syrian refugees with cancer in Jordan, through financing diagnostic and treatment services, thereby helping to alleviate the health and financial burdens on patients and their families.
The Fund added that it had awarded nine grants to the center totaling $11.3 million, noting that the most recent grant agreement, worth $2 million, was signed last July to help cover treatment costs for Syrian refugees with cancer in Jordan.
According to the King Hussein Cancer Center, approximately 500 Syrian refugee patients have benefited from the Fund’s support over the years of cooperation.
Osama Al-Attal, Director of the Medical Services Department at the Kuwait Fund, received the honor at the ceremony, which was held under the patronage of Jordanian King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
On a separate note, the Kuwait Fund signed a grant agreement yesterday (Wednesday) with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) worth $2.56 million to help finance a project aimed at developing and disseminating genetically improved crop varieties using smart solutions.
In a statement to KUNA, the Fund said the grant agreement aligns with its efforts to support food security and promote sustainable agricultural development in Arab countries.
