Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that Egypt’s military move to defend Saudi Arabia would not include launching an attack on Yemen, and would be limited to defending the kingdom’s territory and borders, according to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency. The statement said, “The Egyptian military effort is to defend the kingdom’s territory and does not include an attack on Yemen... The aim is to defend the kingdom’s territory and borders, and the territory of any other Arab state if Egypt is asked to do so.” He added, “The Egyptian military effort does not extend beyond the borders of Egypt or any brotherly state whose security and stability Egypt is keen to protect.” Lawmakers said that the Egyptian parliament had postponed on Monday a vote on authorizing the armed forces to support Saudi Arabia to October 26. Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met in Riyadh with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss “regional developments and coordinate efforts regarding them,” amid escalating combat operations between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
