The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council, during its meeting on Tuesday chaired by Eng. Munira Al-Amir, recommended approving the delineation of the boundaries of the oil complex site in the Shuwaikh area. Munira Al-Amir stated in a press statement that the committee discussed several regulatory, urban planning, and heritage-related matters, including a request to establish a diwaniya in the Fahaheel area and to approve the boundaries of the existing oil complex site in Shuwaikh, alongside the establishment of a marine base to display the Ghazir oil rig as part of a maritime heritage museum.
She added that the committee approved a request to build a diwaniya in the Fahaheel area with an area of 1,000 square meters. The technical opinion endorsed the request subject to specific conditions, most notably designating the plot exclusively for use as a diwaniya, limiting construction to a basement, ground floor, and first floor, adhering to prescribed height limits, obtaining final approval for architectural plans, and respecting setbacks from neighbors in accordance with the private residential system.
Regarding files related to oil facilities, the committee discussed a request from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation to approve the boundaries of the existing oil complex site in Shuwaikh. The technical opinion concluded with approval for the site, covering an area exceeding 64,000 square meters, with coordination required with the Ministry of Finance’s State Property Contracts Administration. The relevant departments were authorized to make necessary adjustments to dimensions or areas within the prescribed limits, in case of conflicts with infrastructure services or regulatory requirements.
The committee also referred a request submitted by a company to establish a concrete marine base for the Ghazir oil rig, owned by the Radisson Blu Hotel, to be incorporated into the existing maritime heritage museum located in front of the hotel on the sea side. This was done to provide the Executive Body of the Kuwait Municipality with a detailed technical study. The file noted that the rig has been out of service for more than 35 years since its construction, and the request aims to restore and preserve it as part of Kuwait’s maritime heritage by placing it on a marine base.
Munira Al-Amir concluded that these matters reflect the diversity of issues reviewed by the Technical Committee, ranging from regulating land use and adhering to planning conditions, to supporting the preservation of heritage landmarks, and monitoring sites of a service and strategic nature, all while complying with the procedures and controls governing each case.
