Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, participated in the Leaders’ Summit (COP17) on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia. Director General of the Authority, acting, Nof Bahaani, told KUNA on Saturday that this participation underscores the country’s interest in environmental and sustainability issues and its commitment to being present and effective at international forums shaping the future of global environmental action. She expressed pride in representing Kuwait in a manner befitting its status, conveying its vision and positions on priority environmental issues and contributing to international efforts to protect nature and conserve its resources for future generations.

She noted that Kuwait’s participation in the one-day summit, held on Friday, reflected its commitment to supporting multilateral international environmental action. The summit addressed accelerating the implementation of international commitments to protect biodiversity and conserve ecosystems, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and enhancing cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building to facilitate the transition from pledges to concrete, impactful, and sustainable actions and initiatives.

Bahaani added that Kuwait emphasized the importance of strengthening international and regional partnerships and linking biodiversity protection with environmental security and sustainable development, thereby preserving natural resources and supporting the right of future generations to a safe and sustainable environment. This stance is rooted in the firm conviction that nature protection is a shared responsibility requiring the translation of international commitments into practical outcomes.

She commended the continuous support and follow-up provided by the Minister of State for Development and Sustainability and Supervisor of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, Dr. Reem Al-Falih, and her dedication to enhancing the efficiency of environmental work, institutionalizing sustainability as an organizational approach, and aligning national priorities with Kuwait’s regional and international commitments.

Bahaani also praised the participation of the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Armenia as part of the Kuwaiti delegation, noting that the support and coordination provided by embassy members contributed to the success of the participation, reflecting the synergy between diplomatic and technical efforts to strengthen Kuwait’s presence at international forums.

She affirmed that, in light of the high directives and the support of the Minister of State for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Falih, the Authority will continue to work on translating Kuwait’s environmental commitments into national policies and initiatives, and to enhance cooperation with national entities and regional and international partners, thereby consolidating Kuwait’s standing and active presence in the global environmental governance system.
