Faisal Matar - As part of the General Authority for Manpower’s efforts to enhance the protection of workers and develop mechanisms to combat human trafficking, the Authority is working to establish specialized organizational units dedicated to fighting human trafficking, forming committees focused on this file and others tasked with early detection. A senior source told Al-Qabas that the Authority is working to enhance existing efforts to achieve greater effectiveness in this important file, building on the progress achieved after Kuwait retained its Tier 2 ranking in the U.S. Department of State’s 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report. The source confirmed that these efforts come within the framework of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef’s, commitment to protecting workers’ rights, supporting the efforts of relevant authorities in combating human trafficking, and strengthening measures to address violations. He explained that the plan includes developing channels for receiving reports and complaints, alongside enhancing the work of the relevant committees, thereby supporting early detection of cases requiring follow-up and addressing them in accordance with legal procedures. The source said that the majority of reports received through the “Blagani” (Report to Me) service relate to suspicions of human trafficking, and the Authority intends to add new types of complaints related to this file, thereby enhancing the efficiency of receiving and following up on them. He added that the Authority is preparing to participate, representing Kuwait, for the first time in the World Bank’s Doing Business Readiness Report, scheduled for early November next year, noting that the report will include several points that have been discussed, and the Authority will leverage them to develop relevant Kuwaiti legislation on combating human trafficking. The source concluded that the Authority is working within this framework to amend the Labor Law and review related policies, thereby supporting the protection of workers’ rights and strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking.
