Real Madrid has called for the resignation of Javier Tebas from his positions as president of the Spanish Football League (La Liga) and vice-president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, following recent comments in which he compared the club’s management methods to those employed by Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Germany propaganda minister. In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the royal club said, “Real Madrid considers it absolutely unacceptable and highly dangerous for an individual holding two high-ranking positions in Spanish football to compare our propaganda methods with those of the Nazi regime, with the aim of tarnishing the reputation of our club, its leadership, and its television channel. His clarification that he did not intend to endorse Nazi ideology does not diminish the gravity of his remarks, which are highly offensive, morally depraved, and completely inconsistent with institutional propriety.”
The club also clarified its position regarding Tebas’s failure to take any action concerning the “Negreira case.” It stated, “Given the failure of the two institutions in which Javier Tebas holds highly important positions to address the exceptional seriousness of the Negreira case, our club has been compelled to directly approach UEFA to demand a thorough investigation into the payments made by FC Barcelona over many years to the vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees, and to take necessary measures to ensure the integrity of competitions.”
Finally, the Madrid-based club formally called for Tebas’s resignation, stating, “In light of the foregoing, Real Madrid demands the immediate resignation of Javier Tebas from his positions as president of the Spanish Football League (La Liga) and vice-president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.”
