Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, stated that Houthi militias carried out cowardly terrorist acts targeting civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia, and attempted to strike dozens of airports, oil facilities, and ports in the Kingdom. He emphasized that Houthi attacks pose a threat to regional and international security and stability. This statement was made at a press conference held by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy on Thursday, during which he discussed the operation to neutralize key Houthi capabilities to support the war effort, as well as details of the terrorist attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
Al-Maliki noted that the Houthi militia had carried out approximately 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport alone since October 1. He clarified that since the start of military operations, the Houthis had targeted Saudi Arabia with a total of 1,104 rockets and 1,135 drones launched at the Kingdom, resulting in 19 deaths—including 17 at Riyadh Airport—and 364 injuries in Houthi attacks on the Kingdom’s airports.
He added that targeting civilian airports, in particular, does not only threaten the security of the Kingdom specifically, but also the security of air navigation. He stated that Houthi militias had sought to acquire advanced technologies with the assistance of regional actors, becoming the first terrorist group to possess drones and fast boats.
He pointed out that targeting airports endangers the lives of thousands of civilian passengers, and noted that Houthi attempts to strike the Two Holy Mosques were abhorrent and brutal, explaining that Houthi attacks are an extension of a hostile approach that targeted the holiest sites on Earth.
Al-Maliki said, “Our forces have captured high-readiness combat systems and advanced capabilities, and over the past days, we destroyed 127 storage facilities in mountainous areas and numerous launch platforms. We also carried out a distinctive operation in response to Houthi attacks on King Khalid Airport and other airports.”
