Kuwait Defeats Al-Khalidiya 3-1 in 'AFC Champions League Two'

Al-Kuwait Club’s first football team secured its first victory in the 2022 AFC Champions League Two, defeating Bahrain’s Al-Khaleej 3-1 in the match played yesterday at Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium in Sulaibikhat. The game was part of the second round of Group A, which also saw UAE’s Al-Wahda defeat Uzbekistan’s Nasaf 2-1 in their encounter, marking the opening of the group’s second round.

At the end of the second round in Group A, Al-Wahda strengthened its lead at the top of the table with six points, while Al-Kuwait finished second with three points. Nasaf came third with one point, and Al-Khaleej was fourth with the same number of points.

Al-Kuwait managed to avenge its earlier loss to UAE’s Al-Wahda, securing an important win over Al-Khaleej after a standout performance characterized by strong tactical discipline throughout both halves, under the guidance of Syrian coach Firas Al-Khatib.

Al-Kuwait capitalized on its slight first-half advantage to take the lead in the 46th minute through a goal by Faisal Zayed, which resulted from a cross by Mohammed Daham that deflected off Zayed’s head and found the net past Al-Khaleej goalkeeper Ricardo da Silva.

In the second half, Al-Kuwait, whose coach opted for an attack-minded lineup featuring the quartet of Faisal Zayed, Mohammed Daham, Amr Abdel Fattah, and substitute Youssef Nasser, continued to press Al-Khaleej’s defense. As the match progressed, Youssef Nasser doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

In the 80th minute, Al-Khaleej reduced the deficit with a goal from their foreign player Gilson. However, Youssef Nasser sealed the victory for Al-Kuwait with a third goal in the 96th minute of stoppage time in the second half.
