Maysa Al-Suqairi – Here, the Palestinian Ambassador to Kuwait, Rami Tahboub, commented on the occasion of Kuwait’s re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council by a wide majority, stating that this victory reflects Kuwait’s international standing and its prominent role in defending human rights and humanitarian issues. Tahboub told Al-Qabas that Kuwait has been among the pioneering countries in defending humanitarian and social causes in general, as well as Arab issues and the Palestinian cause in particular. He emphasized that Kuwait’s re-election for a new term is a source of pride and honor for Palestine and its people, especially since Kuwait’s presence on the Council will provide significant momentum for defending the Palestinian cause at this difficult time, alongside the suffering endured by the Palestinian people.
He added that this comes amid the ongoing genocide against the Gaza Strip, the escalating aggression by settler mobs in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, with full support from the occupation government, as well as the forced displacement plan that the occupation state is implementing against the sons of the Palestinian people.
Tahboub stressed that Kuwait’s presence on the Human Rights Council would serve as Palestine’s voice within the Council, expressing his confidence that Kuwait will play a more important role in working to develop the Council’s operational tools, thereby making it more influential and effective, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause.
He said, “Our trust in Kuwait is absolute; it is the country that has carried the burden of the Palestinian cause since before its independence and up to this day.” He affirmed that this trust is based on Kuwait’s steadfast historical positions toward the Palestinian cause and its continuous support for the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He added that Palestine is confident that Kuwait will leverage all its capabilities to enhance the credibility of the Human Rights Council, especially concerning the Palestinian cause and Israeli violations against people, land, and trees. He stressed that Kuwait will spare no effort in conveying Palestine’s voice within the Council and defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
