Minister of State for Environmental Affairs and Sustainable Development, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, approved the new organizational structure of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, as part of efforts to develop institutional operations and streamline the administrative apparatus. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, Al-Faleh said the new organizational structure, which has received approval from the Civil Service Bureau, will take effect on November 1. She added that this step is part of developing the institutional work system, streamlining the administrative structure, and enhancing the efficiency of resource and capacity utilization, thereby strengthening the Authority’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and achieving environmental sustainability. This, in turn, supports the integration of administrative and technical efforts and directs them toward national environmental priorities.
The structure includes a Director General for the Authority and two deputies at the rank of Assistant Undersecretary, who will head the Environmental Affairs and Support Services sectors, respectively, each overseeing three general directorates. Al-Faleh noted that the restructuring reduced the number of sectors from three to two, while abolishing and merging organizational units, contributing to addressing overlapping mandates, reducing duplication of tasks, clarifying responsibilities, and enhancing coordination among organizational units.
She emphasized that this reorganization aims to improve performance efficiency, consolidate corporate governance, and strengthen the effectiveness of oversight and accountability, thereby supporting the efficient execution of supervisory and technical tasks and enhancing the Authority’s capacity to respond to environmental challenges and achieve environmental sustainability goals.
