The Governor of the Capital, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, conducted a field visit today (Tuesday) to the Sharq Fish Market, where he reviewed the ongoing development plan aimed at upgrading the market’s facilities and enhancing the level of services provided to citizens and residents, while preserving its historical identity and its status as one of Kuwait’s most prominent heritage markets.

In a press statement, the Capital Governorate said that the Governor received a detailed briefing on the project’s stages and implementation methodology, which includes setting up a temporary market opening tomorrow (Thursday) to ensure uninterrupted sales operations. The plan also covers developing infrastructure and service facilities, improving access and egress, and increasing the number of stalls from 214 to over 240, thereby boosting the market’s capacity and providing a more organized and comfortable environment for vendors and shoppers.

Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among relevant authorities to ensure that development works proceed according to the established plans, while taking into account the needs of stall owners and maintaining the continuity of their commercial activities. He noted that the Sharq Fish Market is part of Kuwait’s historical memory and maritime heritage, stressing the need to strike a balance between preserving the market’s heritage character and keeping pace with development and modernization requirements.
