Trump: Ethiopia took all the water from the Nile... and this is not good for Egypt

US President Donald Trump said that Ethiopia has “taken all the water” from the Nile River, asserting that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam harms Egypt, during a rally for his supporters in Syracuse, New York. Trump described the dam as one of the largest in the world, noting that the United States had funded the project and calling that “a stupid move.” He added, “They took all the water from a place called the Nile River, and that’s not good for Egypt,” indicating that he had dealt with the issue. Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing disputes between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which Addis Ababa inaugurated in 2025, without reaching an agreement with Egypt and Sudan on the rules for its filling and operation.
