United Real Estate Company announced the commencement of its development plan for the Fish Market on the eastern Corniche front, which includes temporarily relocating its operations to a prepared outdoor hall adjacent to the market, starting from October 15, to ensure the continuity of its activities throughout the implementation period.
Sulaiman Al-Asaker, Chief Executive Officer of the Property Management Department at United Real Estate Company, stated: “United Real Estate Company views the Fish Market as a national project playing a vital role in supporting the food security system, which the company is keen to enhance by improving the market’s efficiency, upgrading the selling and shopping environment, and providing more organized and high-quality facilities and services for vendors and consumers.”
Al-Asaker added: “This transition is being implemented in close coordination with government entities and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth procedures and compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, the General Fire Directorate, the Kuwait Municipality, and all participating entities for their continuous cooperation and support in ensuring the success of this phase.”
As part of the development plan, the number of fish, fruit, vegetable, and other food product stalls will increase from 214 to over 240, allowing for the accommodation of more vendors and enhancing the diversity of products offered, including fresh, frozen, and live fish. Applications for stall operators will be accepted shortly.
During the implementation of the Fish Market development works, sales operations will move to a temporary outdoor hall next to the current market building, designated to accommodate the stalls and ensure uninterrupted business. The hall’s preparations include providing an air-conditioned environment and suitable cooling systems for fish preservation, adhering to safety, hygiene, and operational efficiency requirements. Additionally, a clear operational pathway will be established to transport fish from the sea to the hall, ensuring their smooth and efficient arrival at the sales area while maintaining their quality during transit.
United Real Estate Company is also facilitating access to and egress from the hall, organizing visitor movement, and providing dedicated vehicles to transport market visitors between parking lots and the outdoor hall in both directions.
Regarding the development vision, the Fish Market development works will include several engineering and service improvements, such as designating a separate area for fish cleaning services to maintain the hygiene of sales areas, upgrading ventilation and drainage systems, and organizing the display of local and imported fish. The project will also include the addition of restaurants serving freshly cooked fish.
United Real Estate Company emphasized that the planning and design of the project are based on a vision that preserves the identity and historical status of the Fish Market, enhancing its authenticity to meet future needs and serve the community. Al-Asaker stated: “After its development, the Fish Market will rank among the distinguished fish markets in the Gulf and the region.”
Regarding the Corniche Front plan (Phase III) – East Market, Al-Asaker said: “United Real Estate’s vision for developing the ‘East Project’ stems from highlighting the unique value of each component in this distinctive space, with the Fish Market taking precedence due to its economic and social role and the marine resources it provides, which form an important part of the Kuwaiti table.”
