Pentagon Announces Live Internet Broadcast of Nidal Hassan's Execution

The U.S. Department of Defense, known as the Pentagon, announced that the execution of Officer Nidal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 soldiers in a shooting at Fort Hood military base in 2009, will be broadcast live, with the firing squad execution taking place at the base on December 3. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said, “We will ensure that people will be able to watch it, and that it will be public.” When asked during an interview with Real America’s Voice News whether Hasan had made any last requests or contacted the administration of President Donald Trump, he replied, “It doesn’t matter to me; we will see him on December 3.” Hegseth stated that the U.S. Army has not executed any of its personnel by firing squad since World War II. According to the Associated Press, the last execution carried out by the U.S. Army took place on April 13, 1961, when Soldier John Bennett was hanged. Hegseth gave the interview aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, during a visit to its crew, which had participated in supporting the war against Iran, before returning to its home port in San Diego after a long deployment. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Barnhill had previously announced Trump’s approval of Hasan’s execution by firing squad.
