Government Communications Center: Regulations for Owning and Caring for Dogs

The Government Communications Center has outlined the regulations governing the possession and care of dogs, emphasizing the necessity of compliance to safeguard public health. The regulations require obtaining a license to keep a dog, fitting the dog with a collar bearing a metal plate displaying the animal’s serial number, and presenting the dog to the veterinary center for examination and vaccination against rabies, as well as adhering to annual vaccination requirements. According to the regulations, dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle when walked on streets and in public places. Owners must also notify the veterinary center if their dog is diagnosed with rabies or suspected of being infected. The regulations further stress the importance of avoiding contact with, burying, or touching animals that are infected or suspected of being infected with rabies. The Government Communications Center noted that violating these regulations is punishable by law with imprisonment for a period not exceeding one month, a fine exceeding 30 dinars, or both penalties.
