Navi Pillay Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that South African judge and human rights activist Navi Pillay has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of her efforts to strengthen international law and combat impunity for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Pillay is among the leading figures in international justice and human rights, having served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014 and as president of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. The prize, worth 12 million Swedish kronor, will be presented in Oslo on December 10 next year.
