Trump: Not awarding me the Nobel Peace Prize is a major insult to the award's reputation

U.S. President Donald Trump said that not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize constitutes a “great insult” to the prize’s reputation, arguing that his achievements in halting wars make him eligible for the honor. Trump added, “It is well known that they do not award it to people like me,” pointing to his claim that he has “stopped eight wars,” referring to efforts he says contributed to ending or halting several conflicts during his presidency. Regarding the 2026 prize, to be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee tomorrow, Friday, Trump said, “I don’t know what their decision will be; they have a reputation for perhaps not awarding it to people like me.” Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has repeatedly asserted that he deserves what can be described as the world’s highest honor. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, “The time has come... but I was very honored to receive it indirectly last time from the winner, who said that no one in history deserves it more than President Trump.” In January, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented Trump with the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal as part of her efforts to secure U.S. support for her initiatives in Venezuela. Trump believes he deserves the prize after engaging in conflict-resolution efforts in eight disputes since taking office.
