Ronaldo Sends Message to Messi: 'Your Story Will Remain Eternal'

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo publicly expressed his respect for his historic rival Lionel Messi following the Argentine’s emotional retirement from international football. Ronaldo commented on Messi’s Instagram post marking the end of his international career, writing: “Leo, many years of defending your country and a story that will remain eternal forever. I have the utmost respect for everything you’ve achieved with Argentina. A hug.” Ronaldo’s message garnered widespread engagement and was picked up by several media outlets, including the Spanish newspaper Marca, which noted that mutual respect between the two stars has endured despite the fierce competition that has defined their rivalry for over 15 years, making it one of the most prominent individual rivalries in football history. Messi played his final match for the Argentina national team on Wednesday morning, scoring one goal and providing two assists in a 3-0 friendly victory over Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. The 39-year-old described the occasion as “the saddest day of my career,” after more than two decades representing his country, a journey that has cemented his status as one of the greatest footballers in history.
