Kuwait: Houthi Militia Attacks on Mecca and Medina Continue; Shameful and Cowardly Acts

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s strong condemnation and rejection of the ongoing, brazen, and disgraceful attacks by the Houthi militia on the holy cities of Makkah al-Mukarramah and Madinah al-Munawwarah in the fraternal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These acts constitute a provocation to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide, a serious escalation in the violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, as well as attacks against the capital Riyadh and several other cities in the Kingdom. They also include targeting civilians, civilian and economic infrastructure, and ships in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, thereby threatening regional security and the safety of maritime navigation.

The Ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s unequivocal rejection of the recurrence of these hostile and cowardly acts, which represent a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law.

While reiterating Kuwait’s support for the legitimate Yemeni government and for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the fraternal Republic of Yemen, the Ministry commended the concerted efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2014 to support comprehensive and sustainable political efforts aimed at reaching a political settlement in Yemen, in accordance with the three reference points, and its leadership of the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen. It also called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and implement its relevant resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2216 and 2817.

Furthermore, the Ministry reiterated Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its steadfast support alongside the Kingdom, and its backing of all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and security, and to protect its citizens and residents on its territory. It emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of the State of Kuwait and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
