French Institute in the country: 500 Kuwaitis are learning the French language

Mia Al-Sakri – In a sign of the growing presence of the French language and culture in Kuwait, the French Institute revealed to Al-Qabas that 500 Kuwaitis are currently learning French out of approximately 600 students enrolled in the institute. This announcement coincides with the launch of its cultural season for the second half of 2026, featuring extensive diplomatic and cultural participation.

The institute launched its new cultural season in the presence of Olivier Guiffan, the French Ambassador to Kuwait; Soraya Sa’ad, the institute’s director; and a number of partners, sponsors, and key figures in Kuwait’s cultural scene, as part of efforts to enhance cultural dialogue and creative exchange between the two countries.

The season is held under the theme “Creativity and Cultural Diversity,” reflecting the institute’s commitment to expanding the scope of encounters and cooperation between Kuwaiti and French artists and creators, and opening new avenues for joint cultural projects.

Ambassador Guiffan stated, “Sixty-five years of relations between France and Kuwait, and more than two centuries of friendship, are measured not only by the passage of time, but also by the richness of the human, cultural, educational, and scientific ties that have been woven year after year.”

He added that students learning the French language, researchers working together, artists exhibiting their works, and institutions developing joint projects all contribute to consolidating the story of friendship between the two countries.

For her part, Soraya Sa’ad, the institute’s director, emphasized the institute’s commitment to being an open space for Kuwait’s artistic and cultural landscape, enabling artists, creators, and professionals from both countries to exchange ideas and collaborate on developing new projects.
