Kuwait and the United States: Strengthening Relations and Strategic Cooperation
The fourth day of the Kuwaiti delegation’s activities on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly was marked by intense political and diplomatic momentum, manifested in bilateral and multilateral meetings involving officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In this context, Foreign Minister Sheikh Jeraf Al-Jaber met with Donald Blum, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between Kuwait and the United States, and to develop them across various fields. This took place during Al-Jaber’s reception of the U.S. official at the Kuwaiti Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday evening, where the meeting covered the latest developments on the regional and international scenes.
On Thursday, Al-Jaber also reviewed the strategic relations between Kuwait and the friendly United States of America with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs. The two discussed the latest regional developments, exchanged views on them, and deliberated on efforts aimed at supporting security and stability in the region.
Education and Development
Foreign Minister Sheikh Jeraf Al-Jaber emphasized Kuwait’s belief that education is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development, investing in human capital, and building communities capable of facing future challenges. He stated this in a speech delivered during the high-level event titled “Doubling the Potential: A New Era for Education Financing,” organized by the governments of Italy and Nigeria in cooperation with the Global Partnership for Education, at United Nations headquarters in New York.
Al-Jaber highlighted Kuwait’s commitment to continuously improving its education system, enhancing the quality of education, leveraging digital transformation and modern technologies, and developing youth skills to meet the demands of the future and the labor market. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting efforts to expand access to education, particularly in developing countries and the most vulnerable communities, based on the conviction that investing in education is an investment in development, stability, and shared prosperity.
Children of Palestine
Al-Jaber had also participated in a high-level event titled “A Call to Action for the Children of Palestine in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,” which addressed ways to strengthen the protection of Palestinian children and meet their basic needs. The event was held on Wednesday evening at United Nations headquarters in New York, jointly organized by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Belgium, and the European Union. It discussed the humanitarian situation facing children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, ways to enhance their protection, and support for efforts to provide them with essential care and services.
In the context of diplomatic activities, the Foreign Minister met with David Adian, President of the friendly Republic of Nauru; Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore; Jenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan; and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco. During these meetings, they reviewed Kuwait’s relations with their respective countries and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields, in addition to discussing the latest developments on the regional and international scenes.
Supporting International Efforts to Combat Terrorism and Extremism
On Wednesday evening, Ambassador Sadiq Ma’arifi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, met with Alexander Zuev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Counter-Terrorism, to discuss aspects of cooperation between Kuwait and the United Nations in the field of counter-terrorism and ways to strengthen it. This took place during a meeting between the two sides on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where they exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest. Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and supporting international efforts aimed at combating terrorism and extremism, and enhancing international security and stability.
