Stray dogs in the country

Stray dogs in the country, whose numbers have increased and which roam the streets morning and evening from northern to southern Kuwait, pose a serious threat to citizens walking on the roads. The danger is so great that many women have stopped practicing walking as a sport on the streets, fearing for their safety from these stray dogs, which roam day and night. Let me recount an incident: I was sitting with a friend in his backyard, which is adjacent to his house, after Friday prayers. He told me this story: He said he was sitting in the garden in the evening when a young girl came running toward him, crying in fear, while holding a small puppy. She had been walking in the area when she asked, “What’s wrong?” She replied, “Look behind me.” He saw five stray dogs chasing her. He and those with him beat the dogs until they fled. For the record, our friend’s house is located in the Abdullah Al-Salem Suburb. Had my friend not protected her, the girl would have been no more. The Municipality is now required to combat these stray dogs as it did in the past. In the past, there was no problem with stray dogs in the country, due to active anti-stray-dog campaigns. Now, when these campaigns were halted, the dogs multiplied and posed a major threat to the country. We call on Municipality officials to reinstate these campaigns to restore security and safety from the danger posed by these dogs, and to enable people, especially women, to resume walking as a sport, which they have abandoned due to stray dogs.
