Court of Appeal upholds death sentence for citizen who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a Syrian child

The judicial editor reported that the Court of Appeal, presided over by Counselor Nasser Salem Al-Haid and comprising Counselors Mutab Al-Arzi and Saud Al-Sanani, upheld on Wednesday the death sentence for a Kuwaiti national who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a Syrian child. The crime, which occurred during Eid al-Fitr, shocked Kuwaiti society. The court affirmed the death sentence after the defendant was convicted of abducting a nine-year-old Syrian boy from Hawally Square as he was leaving to perform the Eid prayer. The assailant struck the child, took him to his residence, and sexually assaulted him. Following swift investigations by the Capital Police, the suspect was apprehended within 24 hours after the victim was found naked on the street in front of a school in the Rawda district. It was revealed that the defendant had a prior criminal record for kidnapping and sexual assault.
