Chinese Ambassador: Kuwait's ammunition factory is operating efficiently, and we are seeking to expand military cooperation
Mia Al-Sakri – Yang Xin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the country, affirmed that China-Kuwait relations are experiencing growing momentum and rapid development. He noted that bilateral cooperation has entered a “faster track” thanks to strategic guidance from the leadership of both countries, with the scope of partnership expanding to include political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, and security sectors.
He made these remarks to journalists on the sidelines of a reception hosted by the embassy to mark the National Day and the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, as well as the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Kuwait. The event was attended by Dr. Subhi Al-Mukheimer, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.
The Chinese ambassador emphasized that China-Kuwait relations, which are grounded in strategic guidance from the leadership of both countries, possess a solid foundation and broad prospects for growth. He underscored China’s commitment to continuing to develop its partnership with Kuwait and expanding areas of cooperation, thereby enhancing shared interests and supporting the sustainable development of both nations.
He stated that the current year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, noting that the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2018 and look forward to continuing to deepen comprehensive cooperation.
He added that the two countries are working to enhance the alignment of the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative with Kuwait Vision 2035, opening broader prospects for cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and construction, as well as in the development of ports, logistics zones, and supply chains.
He affirmed that Kuwait enjoys a distinguished geographical position that enables it to leverage its advantages to build a regional logistics hub linking Asia and Europe, with the potential to expand its connections to Africa.
Regarding strategic projects, Yang Xin clarified that some construction projects have been affected by regional developments but remain ongoing. He noted that the contract for the water treatment project has been signed and that implementation works will begin soon, expressing his expectation that additional contracts will be signed during the current year.
In the energy sector, Yang Xin affirmed that China and Kuwait are “important energy partners to each other,” explaining that China has long been a major importer of Kuwaiti crude oil, while Kuwait remains among the top ten oil suppliers to China.
He stated that his country is ready to continue deepening cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, contributing to enhancing energy security and economic security for both countries, while also looking forward to expanding cooperation in the new energy sector.
He pointed out that the cooperation documents signed in the presence of the leadership of both countries included projects in the new energy field, expressing China’s hope that renewable energy will become a “new highlight and a new growth driver” in China-Kuwait cooperation in the near future.
Technology sectors
In the field of technology and emerging sectors, the Chinese ambassador said that China is ready to continue cooperating with Kuwait in traditional sectors while simultaneously identifying new growth drivers, including artificial intelligence, the digital economy, smart cities, and cybersecurity, thereby broadening the scope of partnership and opening new prospects for cooperation in advanced technology sectors.
Regarding coordination with Kuwait in the security and military fields, Yang Xin affirmed that cooperation between China and Kuwait represents an important aspect of bilateral relations, noting that the two countries maintain good relations in this area.
He clarified that the cooperation includes the armed forces of both countries, pointing out that the ammunition factory in Kuwait has been operating efficiently since the beginning of the current year. He affirmed China’s expectation to continue expanding security and military cooperation in the coming phase.
