U.S. Chargé d'Affaires: We share a historic partnership with Kuwait

Mia Al-Sakri – The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in the country, Stephen Butler, affirmed the depth and strength of Kuwaiti-U.S. relations, noting that the two countries are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them, amid a historic partnership and a steadfast friendship that has endured over decades of shared achievements and common positions.

In a recorded video posted on his X account to mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Butler stated that Kuwait, which had recently gained independence, began a new chapter in its history 65 years ago, with the United States present to offer congratulations and friendship.

He explained that official communication between the two countries began a decade earlier, when the United States opened its consulate in Kuwait in 1951. He noted that the two countries formally established diplomatic relations on September 22, 1961, when the consulate was then converted into the U.S. Embassy, headed by Chargé d’Affaires Dayton S. Mack.

Butler added, “Today, 65 years later, I am honored to hold the same position and to contribute to writing the next chapter of our shared story.”
